Run for Rabies

I feel the need to update. After all, it has been over a week.

First off, I'd like to congratulate the Ron Paul campaign for raising over 1 MILLION dollars. That is amazing! The message of liberty is thriving and it gives me hope for our country.

Second, I am excited to turn a new leaf regarding daily Scripture reading. I often got anxious about having to read Scripture everyday. I've realized that I should only focus on today (our daily bread). I shouldn't worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. God will provide the time and the grace I just have to GO DO IT. That said, I'm going to try getting up a little earlier than Rachel to read. I'll see how that goes. I'm so thankful that God has given us his word. Yet, even if we never read another word of the Bible, I'd would still be justified as much today as I will be next week.

Third, we're all doing swell. Rachel doesn't like bugs (she says "eww") and she says "bye-bye" to the spider I smooshed last week just about every morning. Tim's been playing Halo 3. I think it's almost out of his system. He's also been working on his blog.

Finally, I made these awesome Iced Pumpkin Cookies from All Recipes. I highly recommend them and they go together fairly easy. They also taste better the day after they're baked.

Oh and there's some rumor going around that my birthday's on Tuesday...but you didn't hear that from me.

May the LORD bless you for feasting on HIS word! I have to say, I have struggled with this since I have had children. Before I had children and also before I got married the LORD blessed me with hours of scripture reading (not so difficult since I attended a Bible college). The last three years, particularly the last 14 months, I feel like I have been in survival mode. I used to beat myself up over not having an hour long devotional. The other day I expressed this guilt to a dear friend (one who seems to live and breath the scriptures) and her answer surprised me. I will just paraphrase some of what she said. She said that some days she doesn't read the scriptures and some days she does. She said the LORD knows how busy, and tired you are. He knows when you have time, and makes time available, and he knows when you use that time for other things (computer, TV, sewing, cleaning), and sometimes there will be days when you are simply too busy or tired. We don't have to fret, if we have it hidden in our heart and we are thinking upon and being obedient to what is already there, we are just as blessed and full of joy whether we read it today, yesterday, last week, or last year.
I don't know why all this surprised me. I guess I just grew up thinking that if you didn't read the scriptures at least once a day you were in really bad shape. I now honestly believe that all feasting on scripture reading many years ago was preparing me for my circumstances now - having two children so close in age and being anemic. Don't get me wrong though, I think your goal is most virtuous and wonderful. I still wish to read my Bible more.

Thank you for the encouragement Candace!! It means a lot.

I didn't wake up before Rachel today. I just couldn't do it. But thankfully, I didn't feel guilty for doing it. I think I do better and am more attentive in the afternoons (while Rachel naps). So that's when I read today. It helps that I'm going through a Beth Moore BS right now so that kind of forces me to go through Scripture. I really love learning and seeing how God has moved and worked throughout history. There are parts of the study that kind of leave a bad taste in my mouth but I can't argue with the amount of reading she requires.

I heard a story of how people in some countries will be given a chapter of Scripture and they'll tear into smaller sections and share it with other believers. It's the only parts they have and they read and reread their little bit of God's word. And we have like 4 or 5 Bibles in our house (1 may be under the seat of the car) and we take them for granted.
