Some very sad news

Today, the Hudgins' household had to put to rest (flush down the toilet) our beloved fish, Mr. Fish. I am, as Peach from Finding Nemo puts it, a "fish killer."

Tuesday, in my whirlwind of activity, cleaned the poor fish's tank. I thought I was doing the fish some good. He was swimming in his own...well, you know. Come to find out, you have to dechlorinate the water before you reintroduce a fish into it's home. I was unaware of this important step and basically killed our only pet. Poor Mr. Fish.

I think we'll sing this at his memorial service. It is one of my favorites.

Three Little Fishies

Down in the meadow in a little bitty pool
Swan two little fishies & a mama fishie too.
"Swim," said the mama fishie, "Swim if you can."
And they swam & they swam all over the dam.

(chorus)
Boop Boop Dittem Dattem What-tem Chu!
Boop Boop Dittem Dattem What-tem Chu!
Boop Boop Dittem Dattem What-tem Chu!
And they swam & they swam all over the dam.

"Stop," said the mama fishie, "Or you will get lost."
The 3 little fishies didn't want to be bossed.
The 3 little fishies went off on a spree.
They sway & they swam right out to the sea.

chorus

"Whee!" yelled the little fishies, "Here's a lot of fun,
We'll swim in the sea till the day is done."
They swam & they swam, it was a lark,
Till all of a sudden they saw a shark!

chorus

"Help!" cried the little fishies, "Gee, look at all the whales!"
And quick as they could, they turned on their tails.
And back to the pool in the meadow they swam,
And they swam & they swam back over the dam.

May Mr. Fish rest in fishy peace.

Now, I must go eat 37 peanut M&M's and watch LOST.

Veggie Tales

Lately, I've been craving Ranch dip and veggies. Rachel and I love to eat them together. However, Rachel takes a bite out of a carrot and then hands it to me. She does the same with broccoli except she spits it out. Afterwards, I get to take a picture like this:

Here's a little lesson in Rachel's vegetable pronunciation:

Brocky=Broccoli
Terrots=Carrots
Brocky Fower=Cauliflower

Ripping our hair out

As Rachel approaches her birthday, I've realized the seriousness of the age 2. I've been thinking lately that bi-polar disease may have first been observed in a two year old.

Today, Rachel went from a sobbing inconsolable maniac to a sweet laughing little girl. The sweet times certainly make the manic parts a little easier. Especially, when Rachel says things like, "Thank you, Daddy" and gives Tim raspberries on his tummy or gives the baby a kiss.

However, there are always the well-meaning people that tell you that the "Terrible Twos" actually last until age 5. I usually respond, "So you mean, I have a lot to look forward to."

Tim and I are definitely having some frustrating moments. It's really amazing how different Rachel can be.

Exciting Tuesday!

Well, yesterday started out as a normal day. Everything was going just fine. I was checking some things online. I look over at Rachel. She was just going through a bag of hers...normal. I look back at the laptop. I look back over at Rachel. Now she is going to town on a travel-sized bottle of mouthwash. So I immediately panic. I call my sister, she's a nurse. She tells me to call the doctor's office. It's busy so I call Poison Control. What a blessing that is! Thankfully, the bottle wasn't full and Rachel didn't drink all of the remaining mouthwash. The only problem was that it was hotel mouthwash. It didn't have the brand name or the ingredients on it or a child safety cap!

Barb, the sweet Poison Control lady, instructed me to give Rachel fruit juice and keep her awake for next two hours. Barb called back after an hour...no symptoms. Then she called again after another hour. Still no signs of drunkenness from my dear daughter. Thankfully, my day didn't involve a trip to the ER.

Oh well, that was our exciting Tuesday. I'm sure every parent has a story about having to call Poison Control...right? :)

Baby Update

I had my second doctor's appointment yesterday (Friday). The baby looks great. I had another ultrasound because the baby's heart rate isn't strong enough yet to pick up on the Doppler. The heart rate was 167 bpm. Nice and strong! The baby was moving around like crazy when the technician started the US but he/she soon calmed down when she started scanning around.

I did lose 5 pounds but my doctor didn't seem too concerned about that. I'll be out of my first trimester about February 5th (haha, AL primary day!). I also had all my blood drawn for the myriad of tests....rubella, Rh, etc. etc. I think that kind of wiped me out yesterday. My iron levels were still high, that's good. I think they were already low by this point w/ Rach. My blood pressure is still good, too.

So, I think that's about it for now. I'm just sooo ready for Spring. It's been very cold and overcast here for last several days.

Bebe Numero Deux

Tim and I went to my first doctor's appointment this morning! All the old routines came back like they were yesterday. Urine sample, weigh-in, blood pressure....you know, all the fun stuff. The pregnancy was confirmed. Before my blood test I was in the office for just a "yearly w/ a missed period." (Sorry for any guys reading this!) I had an ultrasound to confirm how far along I am. We're at about 7 weeks. The heartbeat was strong; about 133 bpm. The ultrasound tech is already saying it's a boy. I'm not sure why. We're shooting for a due date of 8-8-08!

Thankfully, I'm not anemic yet. I'm feeling queasy just about all day but no major vomiting...yet. That in itself is an answered prayer. I dread taking my prenatal vitamins. They just smell terrible. My doctor gave me a capsule form so hopefully, they won't smell as bad.

Anywho, that's about it in a nutshell. Rachel is eagerly awaiting her new baby brother or sister. When I told her that mommy had a baby in belly, she put in finger in my belly button and said, "open". So, we're all very excited!

Once I find my camera, I'll post some pics of our little blueberry.

UPDATE: So the new vitamin made me feel really yucky last night. I think it was b/c I took it on a somewhat empty stomach. I should have known better. Tonight, I took it immediately after I ate my dinner. I think that helped considerably. My queasiness kind of fades in and out. Only a few more weeks of this. I know it's all worth it. Rachel is my constant reminder.
